UAE-based carrier Emirates will fly to 50 more destinations in the month of June, according to reports in the media.
Emirates resumed operations to nine destinations across the world on May 21st.
Adel Al Redha, chief operating officer at Emirates Airways highlighted that June is an important month for not just Emirates, but the global aviation sector.
The carrier halted all operations in March to help the country curb the spread of the coronavirus.
He told Khaleej Times, “June is a very important month for aviation in general and Emirates in particular as the airline is going to reopen more routes in coming days. We are in close touch with relevant authorities and governments and will share the details once conclude a deal.”
“Covid-19 flight and travel restrictions remain in place across many countries around the world. But the situation is changing fast and more countries are going to ease travel restrictions this month and it will help revive trade, tourism, aviation and the economy. We are closely monitoring the situation as it evolves, and we hope to resume services as soon as conditions allow. This includes receiving government approvals, the easing of travel restrictions and commercial demand. We will announce more destinations in coming days once we conclude talks with the authorities concerned.”
Emirates president Tim Clark recently said that it could take up to four years for Emirates airline’s operations to return “to some degree of normality.
The International Air Transport Association (IATA) earlier estimated last week that global airlines will lose $314 billion in 2020 revenues, a 55 percent dive from last year.
