Global oil and gas majors Adnoc and Total have securely delivered the first unconventional gas from the Emirates. It is reported that the Ruwais Diyab Unconventional Gas Concession delivered the gas. The unit is located 200 km west of Abu Dhabi city.
The development marks the Emirate’s first delivery of unconventional gas. Furthermore, Adnoc and Total signed the region’s first unconventional gas concession agreement two years ago and secured a 40 percent stake in the Ruwais Diyab Unconventional Gas Concession.
According to Adnoc, the new development will bolster the Emirates’ ambitions to become a gas self-sufficiency nation and it will assist the company to produce 1 billion standard cubic feet (scfd) of gas from the concession before 2030. The delivery of the unconventional tool was carried out through a purpose-built gas pipeline.
Yaser Saeed Almazrouei, Adnoc Upstream executive director told the media, “This achievement marks another important milestone in the development of the UAE’s unconventional gas resources as we deliver on our integrated gas strategy and work to achieve gas self-sufficiency for the nation. The accelerated progress in Ruwais Diyab is a testament to the long-standing partnership between Adnoc and Total, which has enabled us to expedite the learning curve in the production of unconventional gas resources, provided cost optimization opportunities and driven efficiencies. All of these remain key as we move forward with confidence to further develop the concession and unlock its substantial potential to drive sustainable value for the UAE and its people.”
The oil and gas industry in the Middle East has been hampered by the pandemic. However, some companies expect a fast recovery
