Saudi telecom major Zain is bolstering its efforts to provide 5G FWA to the Kingdom’s customers in partnership with Nokia, media reports said.
Both Zain and Nokia have started to work with each other to spur the development where 60,000 FastMile 5G Gateway 3.1 units will be launched this year. Apart from that, eSIMs will be incorporated to make the set-up process seamless and will support Wi-Fi 6.
Sandra Motley, President of Fixed Networks at Nokia, told the media, “We are happy to support Zain KSA connect more people and revolutionize the way people live and work in the Kingdom. Zain KSA is joining the leading operators around the world, in providing the 5G fixed wireless access to deliver a gigabit experience to consumers and businesses alike. The combination of FastMile 5G Gateways and self-optimizing mesh Wi-Fi 6 technology means that Zain KSA is delivering a new and unmatched 5G experience to everyone, at every corner in homes and offices.”
AbdulRahman bin Hamad AlMufadda, CTOI at Zain KSA said that launching the 5G fixed wireless access routers comes in line with the company’s plan to digitalise the Kingdom and expand 5G network.
It is reported that the capacity of 5G FWA is expected to be tested as it will be used more this year. Global telecom giants are looking forward to launch 5G largely across the world. However, in some nations the 5G is still being piloted. 5G is considered the next gen of network as it has the potential to provide 100 times more internet speed than 4G.
