Sohar Port, Hutchison ports Sohar and Freezone plans to jointly study the possibility of Sohar Ports’ expansion, while the development of a new container terminal to handle mega vessels.
It is reported that the study will embark this year and will envisage for future growth to fulfil the heavily demanded local and regional economy’s needs. Furthermore, the study will try to find the possible impacts of any future expansion.
The expansion is expected to bolster Sohar Ports’ potential in the regional and international levels in the segment of cargo and container handling. The move will also generate fresh jobs for the local population in the Sultanate of Oman.
The port has a brighter future and it needs to boost its capacity to fasten future development. The addition of fresh areas will boost the port’s overall outlook and comprise the necessary infrastructure to attract vital international shipping lines.
Once the project is successfully implemented then it is expected to bring sustainable economic and social benefits for the Sultanate.
