The logistics unit of Alibaba Cainiao Smart Logistics will invest $645,000 during China’s upcoming Lunar New Year festivities to keep logistics operations busy. The new value-added service will pave the path for businesses in mainland China and Hong Kong to carry out sales and deliveries seamlessly amid the festival for two weeks.
The company seeks to roll out the services to other regions in the future after the pilot programme in Hong Kong. According to the company, the new services will comprise 1500 workers across the full chain of logistics operations in Cainiao’s warehouses. The customers across Hong Kong will also receive parcels within three working days and get additional protection with compensation for late deliveries that take more than the stipulated time.
Ray Cheuk, head of operations (Hong Kong), Cainiao Global Supply Chain, told the media, “With the pandemic, logistics has increasingly served as an essential service that connects people to goods, services and most importantly, their loved ones. During festivities such as this Lunar New Year, we hope that by keeping the logistics service running, we are creating opportunities for businesses to increase sales revenue and for consumers to connect with their loved ones by sending gifts across the border or to enjoy local produce without having to commute home. As Taobao and Tmall’s official logistics provider, we are always seeking new and better ways to deliver more value-added logistics services to benefit businesses and consumers.”
The company has been performing strong in recent times and is expected to dominate the logistics segment in Asia.
