Chinese ride-hailing DiDi forays into Argentina

The services are launched at La Plata, in the capital and in the province of Buenos Aires

China-based ride-hailing giant Didi has recently launched its services in Argentina. Didi’s services are now available at La Plata, in the capital and in the province of Buenos Aires. Both DiDi Express and DiDi Taxi services are now available in the Latin American region.

In a statement, DiDi said, “The launch in the city of Buenos Aires occurs after several months of work and analysis, in which the DiDi team identified local mobility needs and adapted its platform for launch in Argentina.”

The company earlier revealed that around 15,000 taxi drivers and over 15,000 other drivers have joined the application. It is reported that DiDi assured drivers with profits of up to $40,000. The commission it takes from the trips made is 15 percent in total for the ‘DiDi Express’ service. The company will not charge commission from drivers during the first three months of the ‘DiDi Taxi’ service.

Didi Chuxing recently launched what it says is the world’s first electric vehicle (EV) developed for ride-sharing. Known as D1, the car was co-developed with China’s biggest electric vehicle maker BYD. It is reported that electric vehicles will be rolled out to drivers through DiDi’s leasing partners in Changsha, Hunan province in December.

It is also reported that the ride-hailing giant is considering Hong Kong for a multibillion-dollar initial public offering (IPO) next year. It makes around 60 million trips per day and currently has 550 million users in 13 countries such as New Zealand, Brazil, Japan, Russia, Mexico, Chile, China, Colombia, Panama and Peru among others.
