Vietnam-based health-tech startup Docosan raised $1 million in its seed funding round led by AppWorks, a Taiwanese venture capital firm according to the media. In the seed funding round, Huat Ventures of Singapore and biotech entrepreneur David Ma also participated.
Docosan, a mobile application that connects doctors and patients nationwide was founded in January 2020. The app helps patients to compare healthcare providers, book appointments, converse with healthcare assistants and manage health data for free. It is to note that the app recently added an online payment feature and plans to launch telehealth and pharmacy services.
Beth Ann Lopez, co-founder and chief executive officer of Doscon addressed the media and said people in Vietnam are often forced to choose between 30,000 private hospitals and clinics with big variations in prices and quality. It is a reason why people prefer word of mouth recommendations from their families and friends to choose a healthcare provider. Even when they arrive at the healthcare facility they may have to wait for their turn for a long time.
Docosan allows its users to filter medical providers with their preference of location and speciality along with prices and reviews from verified customers. It claims to have helped 50,000 patients in Vietnam to book appointments with medical practitioners in 35 different fields. Doctors connected to the app are provided with software assistance in managing the bookings.
Lopez further added that “Docosan’s medical booking app provides doctors with an easier way to manage appointments and prevent crowded waiting rooms, which people are increasingly wary of amid the pandemic.”
