Nigeria-based fintech Carbon launches social banking service

The keyboard extension allows customers to access its services from within whatever app they are using

Nigeria-based fintech startup Carbon has launched a keyboard extension that allows customers to access its services from within whatever app they are using, the media reported.

The new social banking service, called Carbon Express, will enable its customers in Nigeria to access services from the touch of their keyboard enabling quicker Instagram or WhatsApp commerce.

Chijioke Dozie, chief executive officer (CEO) of Carbon told the media, “This is a step in the right direction for Carbon as we aspire to go everywhere with our customer. People are spending a lot of their time on social messaging apps like Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and WhatsApp, and it is only natural that some of the conversations they have on these platforms have to do with money. With Carbon Express, we are merging social conversations with financial services – meeting customers where they spend a lot of their time.”

“We want to continue to build a mutually beneficial relationship between our company and our customers and what better way than to reward their loyalty and discipline,” Dozie added.

Earlier this year, Carbon has set up a $100,000 pan-African fund to address the lack of funding and support holding back entrepreneurs on the continent.

In the month of April, Carbon announced that it has partnered with insurance provider AXA Mansard to launch a range of healthcare benefits for its regular customers

Customers that save a minimum of ₦3,000 monthly with Carbon will qualify for a ₦20,000 cash benefit in the event that they are hospitalized for two or more nights. While those that have an existing loan, which is not in arrears, or do over ₦5,000 in transactions monthly will also qualify for this health benefit.
