Shanghai reports strong growth in the export of container and container ships

From January to August, Shanghai exported 245,000 containers

Shanghai made an announcement that their numbers have been growing steadily and recently they have observed that there has been a surge in growth in the export of containers and container ships in the first eight months of this year which has helped the sector get back on track after the Covid-19 crisis, according to media reports.

Additionally, it was also mentioned that between January to August, Shanghai exported 246,000 containers, up twofold from the same period last year.

The value of the export also surged 455 percent, reaching $1.25 billion. Additionally, Shanghai also exported 16 container ships worth 7.99 billion yuan this year, whereas there have been no records for the same last year.

The recent surge in Shanghai also goes to prove that the growth in exports of containers and container ships shows that the global demand for China-made goods is still strong, despite the Covid-19 pandemic.

The demand for containers in the market has also stayed strong since global shipping prices picked up from the third quarter of 2020, according to Shanghai CIMC Baowell Industries who alone exported 163,000 containers in the January-August period.

But, on the other hand, Chinese manufacturers are also pumping out record volumes of freight containers after shippers ordered vast stacks of steel boxes in an attempt to repair the disruptions in the global supply chain.

The world’s biggest box manufacturers, China International Marine Containers (CIMC), Dongfang International Container and CXIC Group are still struggling to meet demands even if production has been increased with workers’ hours extended.
